The Alexandria Cenotaph was unveiled by the Governor General of Canada, Lord Byng of Vimy, on October 1, 1923. It was dedicated to those from the community that lost their lives in the First World War and their names were inscribed on a plaque.
A second plaque with the names of those from who died in the Second World War and Korean War was unveiled by Governor General Vincent Massey on November 6, 1957. At this time, the four names missing from the First World War were added to the first plaque. The gun from Second World War and replaced the two original German Guns of the First World War.
