The Archivolt was unveiled in 1928 consisting of a grapevine with small creatures such as a beetle, spider and web, lizard, butterfly, rat, hare, bat, birds, frog and a bee. Architect Pearson indicated they represented the flora and fauna of the country in which Canadian men and women spent their lives.
The inscription above the archivolt is extracted from the poem "The Returning Man", written by John C. Jones.
