Il fut érigé pour rendre hommage à tous les militaires qui se sont entraînés à la Base Valcartier depuis sa création en 1914.

Ce monument fut dévoilé le 21 avril 1995 par le Premier ministre du Canada, lle très honorable Jean Chrétien, C.P., C.R., députe.

This monument depicts a Canadian First World War soldier bidding "Au revoir" at the time of his departure from Canada for the defence of world freedom, a gesture repeated by many thousands of others since. It has been erected as a tribute to all military personnel who have trained at Base Valcartier since its foundation in 1914.

This monument was unveiled on April 21st, 1995 by the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, P.C., Q.C., M.P.
