The Consecon Cenotaph is dedicated to First and Second World Wars, Korean War and Peacekeeping Veterans. It was erected by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 509 in October 1981.
The Branch purchased an old stone building on January 8, 1957 and held their first meeting in their new hall. Honour Rolls were obtained and Rev. E.M. Cook entered all the names of fallen comrades from the Village and surrounding area, assisted by the President at the time, Comrade Dorwin Smith. Almost immediately, plans were made to erect a cenotaph on the grounds in memory of their fallen comrades of both the First and Second World Wars, but it was not until July 1957 that the cairn was completed. This cenotaph was made of field stone and over the year it had many repairs due to weather conditions and vandalism.
In 1981 it became beyond repair and was torn down. A new cenotaph was erected by Campbell Monuments in Belleville. The unveiling ceremony on October 3, 1981, was attended by members from all the branches in the zone, as well as several other branches in Ontario.
