A memorial was originally erected in Devlin in 1919 by the Devlin Women's Institute and dedicated to the local war dead of the First World War. After the Second World War a new memorial, the present brick cairn, was built and the plaque from the older memorial and a new plaque dedicated to the local veterans of the Second World War was added to it. In 1997 a third plaque was added to the memorial bearing the image of a soldier and the words Lest We Forget.
