On September 16, 1919, the Methodist Board of Education decided to build a memorial school under the leadership of Rev. Walter W. Cotton. The foundation was laid October 4 and on June 30, 1923, Elliston Memorial School opened to honour residents killed during the Great War. The second story was later removed and it became the United Church Hall until it was torn down in February/March of 2013 to become the site of Sealers Interpretation Centre on Main Street. The original large window from the second story has been incorporated into the interpretation centre.
