This memorial plaque was erected by the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Association in co-operation with the Governor General's Foot Guards, the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business association of Ottawa, and Branch 360 of the Royal Canadian Legion. The memorial was unveiled on July 15, 1996 and is dedicated to the memory of Filip Konowal VC.

Filip Konowal

Filip Konowal, a Ukrainian Canadian who enlisted in the 77th Batallion, while
serving as a corporal with the 47th Batallion of the Canadian Expeditionary
Force, fought with exceptional valour in August 1917 near Lens, France.
For this His Majesty King George V personally conferred the Victoria Cross
on him in London on 15 October 1917

Filip Konowal, un Canadien ukrainien qui s`est engagé dans le 77e bataillon
alors qu`il servait comme caporal avec le 47e battaillon du corps
expéditionnaire du Canada, a combattu en France en août 1917, dans les
environs de Lens, avec une bravoure exceptionnelle. Pour cette bravoure, Sa majesté le roi George V lui a présenté personnellement la croix Victoria à
Londres le 15 octobre 1917.
