In 1920, it was proposed to erect a memorial arch at the entrance to the park in Brownsville, to commemorate the men from the Village that served during the Great War. The memorial gate and arch were erected in 1926, designed and built by Alfred E. Moore of Otterville, Ontario. The gates and arch stretched along the whole front of the Brownsville Memorial School yard (now the site of the Brownsville Library and Community Centre), with stone posts built on four-foot deep foundations.
