This street is named in memory of WO II James Richard Goodfellow.
James Richard Goodfellow was born in 1920 in London, ON. He grew up on Wharncliffe Road South and, as a young boy, demonstated a keen interest in flying. Upon graduation from South Collegiate, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained as a wireless- air gunner. After completing his aircrew training in Canada, he was transferred to Britain, where he was assigned to 428 Squadron flying out of RAF Middleton- St. George, east of Darlington. On the night of 13 July 1943, his crew took off at 23 :38 as part of a bomber group set to attack Aachen, Germany. A few hours later at 02 :40, they were intercepted by German nightfighters and crashed near Mesnil- Saint Blaize, Belgium ; all seven crew members were killed. WO II James Goodfellow is buried at Florennes Communal Cemetery, Belgium.
