This memorial is dedicated to the veterans of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War as well as Peace Keepers. It was constructed October 20 to 27, 1996 and designed by Alfred Skouris. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 429 and the Hawk Junction Local Services Board provided the funding for the memorial.
Address by Harold Armstrong: Comrades, Ladies and Gentlemen Welcome to this day. This long awaited day of dedicating a Cenotaph in remembrance and respect of the veterans who unselfishly dedicated a part of their life, fighting for and keeping peace throughout the world so that we at home could embrace and enjoy the life that we have today. These veterans who honour have all been part of our community as neighbours, friends or acquaintances. A lot of the names are well remembered as we have direct descendants still residing here and there are relatives in attendance. Other names will be less familiar while others still will be vague to some, forgotten or not known to others. Time does this. We as humans forget. This Cenotaph is our monument. Erected to allow us to remember, to never forget these veterans gone before us. As life will have it and as time passes other veterans names will be added to the honour role. Today as we stand before the Cenotaph tomorrow and in the future, should you pass by, stop and reflect, remember and respect. Never forget our veterans.
