This street is named in memory of Corporal Walter Clare Haycock. 

Walter Clare Haycock was born in Tillsonburg, 60 km south-east of London, ON. After his schooling he moved to London for work and eventually enlisted with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada regiment, based in the Galt (Cambridge)- Waterloo area. After training in England for numerous months, the Highland Light Infantry landed in France during OPERATION OVERLORD (D-Day), landing at Bernières-sur-Mer. They participated in the ensuing actions and as well as the capture of Caen, in July 1944. By September, they were helping in the capture of Boulonge and starting on 1st October, were engaged in the Battle of the Scheldt. The Regiment crossed at Terneuzen on 8 October and went on to capture Biervliet on 11 October and Schoodijke on the 21st. It is during these actions that Corporal Walter Clare Haycock was killed on 16 October, at the age of 21 years old. He is buried at the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery in Belgium.
