The McGill University Faculty of Arts Great War Honour Roll was unveiled on 8 May 1949. In April 1915, two graduates of McGill University, George C. McDonald and Percival Molson, suggested to the Minister of Militia and Defence to recruit an infantry company from university men and their friends. During the First World War, McGill University faculty and student body were the source for raising replacement companies for Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). Students were recruited from universities across the country for service with the PPCLI and assembled in Montreal before deployment overseas.
