This memorial features a statue of a soldier in action, and the names of those who gave their lives in the First World War. Originally built shortly after the First World War, the plaques for the Second World War and Korea were later added. It is dedicated to the men of Meaford and St. Vincent Township.
The figure by Nicolas Pirotton of a soldier holding a rifle in his left hand and a grenade in his right, appears in bronze in Meaford (1924). It is said to have been modelled as a portrait of Major Thain Wendell MacDowell, a local man who had been awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at Vimy Ridge. The figure was cast by the Allis Chalmers Company of Toronto.
