The flagstones used in the Memorial Chamber were collected from various battlefields in France and Belgium by the Canadian defence staff posted at Poperinghe, Flanders. Eight brass plates were inlaid with the names of the main battles in which Canadian Forces participated: Ypres, Mount Sorrel, the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Hill 70, Passchendaele, Amiens, Arras, Cambrai, Valenciennes, and Mons.
