The Merrickville Cenotaph was erected in memory of all the men and women who gave their life in the service of God, King, Queen, and Country. Originally, the plaque was for the First World War with the Second World War and the Korean War added later. It was constructed in 1938 in time for Remembrance Day, (about the same time as the National War Memorial in Ottawa).
Remembrance Day servicves have been held at the Cenotaph every November 11 since 1938. In June 1995, a special service was held to commemorate the end of the Second World War and included Victory in Europe and Victory over Japan memorial celebrations.
The Merrickville Second World War Field Gun is also located in this park.
