This memorial is dedicated to the citizens of Merritton who served and those who died in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. It was erected by the Town of Merritton and dedicated on July 31, 1921. The statue is believed to have been carved by artist Emanuel Hahn.
St. Catharines is home to eight war memorials, dating as far back as 1886. When the Town of Merritton, Village of Port Dalhousie and Grantham Township joined with St. Catharines in 1961, so too did their war memorials.
