In 1955, President Ernest Hanson of Milltown Branch #48, Royal Canadian Legion proposed a Veteran's Memorial monument be erected in the community. A community drive to raise funds was successful and in September 1956 a dedication service was held. About 400 War Veterans and spectators attend the unveiling of the granite monument to honour those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the First World War, the Second World War and Korea. The monument was designed by Windsor Dewar, of Milltown, N.B. and constructed by Kenneth Fitzgerald, stone mason from St. Stephen, N.B. The monument is made of grey granite and came form the quarry at the Ledge, a rural area of St. Stephen.
