Mono Township Community Centre and Memorial Hall

The hall was built as the community war memorial in 1951 and its official opening was on June 1. It was a community effort: a grant was obtained from the government to help with the costs, the Farm Forum gave assistance and local residents contributed both brain and brawn towards the construction. The hall is set in an attractive park in the hamlet of Mono Centre which now boasts playground equipment for small children as well as a baseball diamond. The original hall was a frame building. In 1973 it was bricked, and in 1983 the name was officially changed to the "Mono Township Community Centre and Memorial Hall". In 1987, an addition was made and the front radically changed, with the redesigned building being officially opened on June 6. Management of the hall was by a committee of local residents until the municipality took over in 1987, and it has become a popular venue for recreation programs run by the Town of Mono and various individuals and also for picnics, meetings, wedding receptions, family reunions, etc. Further renovations and improvements have just been completed and the hall bears little resemblance to the original building. However, plaques are installed in prominent places on both the outside and inside of the building which show the dedication to those among the local community who served and/or gave their lives in the two Great Wars.
