This statue is dedicated to Norman Bethune, Montrealer by adoption. He was a military medical doctor during the First World War, practicing doctor in Montréal, inventor, artist, classical scholar between the two Great Wars, member of the medical field in the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War, 1936-37 and medical doctor in Mao Tsé Toung's Popular Army. He died in China.
