This island is named in honour and memory of Paul Alfred Olson, one of our honoured dead of World War II. Service No. J-23786. Employed in the air transport to Red Lake. Died in the service and defence of his country while with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Britain (Cumberland), February 14, 1944.

The cairn was erected by the volunteers of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 and the Members of the Lac Seul Native Band Reserve No. 28.
