This memorial was built in 1970 in a mini park next to the centennial building on Mance Street and then moved in 1984 to Pioneer Park. It was erected by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3 and designed by sculptor Don Darby.

It consists of a cement base, a 10 feet high painted concrete cross, and a fiberglass poppy with a First World War military helmet in the center. The original bronze plaque was stolen in 2013 and replaced with a granite one.
