This memorial commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Regiment.

The Royal Canadian Regiment traces its origins to the creation of the Infantry School Corps on 21 December 1883, with its first three companies stationed at Fredericton, New Brunswick; St Jean, Quebec; and Toronto, Ontario. A few years later, a fourth Company was authorized and established at London, Ontario. Over the ensuing years, the Infantry School Corps would change names a number of times: The Canadian Regiment of Infantry in 1892, The Royal Regiment of Canadian Infantry in 1893 and the Royal Canadian Regiment of Infantry in 1899 before being named the Royal Canadian Regiment in 1901.
