A sundial behind the East Block on Parliament Hill and overlooking the set of locks remembers the Royal Sappers and Miners. Overlooking the locks of the Rideau Canal, the sundial was used on that site in 1826-27 and was restored in 1919.
Note: The site of present-day Parliament Hill was the site of the barracks, military hospital, etc, during the construction of the Rideau Canal. A sundial at this location would have been a useful item for the Royal Sappers and Miners and civilian workforce employed on the project.
