Erected by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 15, this memorial is dedicated to the local veterans of the First World War. The cross was made by Mr. Charles Cutting. The stone used in the base of the Memorial was collected from the land of those who gave their lives in the First World War. Mr. Bert Proctor was the President and Mr. William Reed was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Legion Branch at that time. Mr. Harry Evans and Mr. Ted Taylor were two of the soldiers who failed to return. The Memorial overlooks the Lake that bears its name (Memorial Lake) as well as the village of Shell Lake.
