This street is named in memory of Pilot Officer William Gerard Tillmann. 

"William Gerard Tillmann was born in London, ON. Growing up on Central Avenue near Victoria Park, he attended De Lasalle High School and Central Collegiate before working for Labatt’s Brewery. He enlisted in March 1942 and following the completion of his aircrew training, embarked for England in June 1943. He was assigned as a bomb-aimer to 424 (Tiger) Squadron RCAF, stationed at Skipton-on-Swales, Yorkshire. On the night of 24-25 March 1944, his crew was part of a bombing mission to attack Berlin. During the mission, his plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed. Two crew members were killed, including Tillmann, and the others taken prisoner. Pilot Officer William Gerard Tillmann was 22 years old and is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, 5km south-west of Kleve, Germany."
