The Varna Cenotaph (Originally called the Soldier Monument) was erected on June 26, 1920. The Cenotaph is dedicated to the fallen heroes of the First and Second World Wars. The dedication ceremony took place on June 26, 1920. Colonel Combe of Clinton gave vivid accounts of Canadian honour and glory. Reeve Elliott unveiled the Monument. When Morton Elliott became the reeve in 1919 for Stanley, he was instrumental in having a Memorial erected. The clerk donated the land which was on a lot located at the west end of Varna. In 1967 it was moved to the crossroad in Varna where it still stands. Source: Clinton News-Record, July 1st, 1920
