  • Grave Marker– I visited my great-uncle James Edward Teskey's grave site in the Barlin France Communal Cemetery on May 23, 2015. Without knowing exactly which gravestone was his, I was strangely drawn directly to it. It was as if he knew a family member was there. As a child, I remember James military portrait hanging proudly in my grandmothers home (Margaret Johnson nee-Teskey) in Okotoks, Alberta. When asked about it, she would very fondly speak of her brother who was lost at age 18 in the Great War in the Battle of Arras, France. My grandmother, who was a life-long teacher, taught all of her students to pay their respects to those that served in the military. I owed it to her and my great-uncle (and to all of those that served with him) to find and visit his grave site, if I was fortunate enough to ever do so. On behalf of my family, I'm happy that I was able to honour your sacrifice. Rest In Peace Uncle James. Your family wishes we had a chance to know you. Greg Johnson, Calgary, Alberta.
