Baptized Joseph-Guillaume-Émilien Dupuis. Son of François-Xavier Dupuis and Albaïs Dessureault, of Shawinigan-Falls, Mauricie, Québec. He stated being born on 27 July 1898 when he enlisted.
His first name was inscribed “Émilien” in the 1901 census and “Welley” in the 1911 census. He phonetically signed “Weller” when he enlisted, therefore, he is recorded and buried under that spelling.
Upon arrival in France in 1918, he was assigned to serve with the 22nd Battalion, but he never joined the unit. After two weeks with the reinforcements, he was reassigned to the 14th Battalion and served with them until his death in 1919 attributable to the Spanish flu.
Commemorated on Page 533 of the First World War Book of Remembrance. Request a copy of this page. Download high resolution copy of this page.
