Baptized Joseph Georges Hervé Napoléon Ferron. Husband of Rollande Breton and father of Raymond and Lise Ferron of Chambly, Québec. Son of Alphonse Ferron and Dorilla Denis. The youngest of three children.
Enlisted in January 1951 with the Canadian Army Special Force in Montreal, Quebec, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment. He left for Japan, arriving on April 14, 1952. On the 18th, he landed in Pusan, South Korea. A member of Company B, he was killed in action on September 4, 1952, while defending the Wyoming Line against Chinese artillery.
His name was inscribed on the cenotaph of the Korean War Memorial in Meadowvale Cemetery, Brampton, Peel, Ontario, erected in 1997 to commemorate the 516 Canadians killed in action between 25 June 1950 and 27 July 1953, as well as on the Korean War Memorial in downtown Ottawa, Ontario. An identical monument can be found at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Pusan (South Korea).
