Erected by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 61 and the Ladies Association, this memorial is dedicated to the local war dead of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. The base of the memorial was constructed during October/November of 1972. The memorial itself was bought from the local funeral home. The memorial was paid for by the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 61 by holding several fund-raising activities, such as bingo and walkathons, after which the residents were able to raise the required funds. The Ladies Auxiliaries in 1972 comprised of about 30 ladies. Neguac is situated on Miramichi Bay, approximately 40 km from Miramichi City. The main occupations of the residents are lumbering and fishing. Others work outside the community at pulp mills, mining, etc. The records indicate that the first settlers of the region were displaced Acadians and probably arrived in the years 1756-1757.
