In early 1919, a special meeting of the township of Caradoc was called to discuss erecting a memorial to honour those who died in the First World War. A committee was appointed and a contract was awarded to Hamby and son of the Strathroy Marble. It was recommended that a marble tablet be placed in the town hall inscribed with the names of all the men and women who had served.

The Mount Brydges Cenotaph was unveiled on June 15, 1920. It is made of granite and the statue surmounting the pedestal is from Italy. After the Second World War, the names of those fallen were engraved on the back of the cenotaph. In the 2010s, those who fought in the Korean conflict were remembered and in 2016 the cenotaph was restored.
