This is the original memorial dedicated to the British Soldiers who served in Fredericton. It was erected by members of the York Sunbury Historical Society in 1934. The cairn is dedicated to members of the British Fredericton Garrison buried in the cemetery, many with unmarked graves. There were 24 different British infantry regiments served in Fredericton and contributed greatly to the development of the town.

A new memorial was unveiled on August 13, 1985.
