A memorial was originally proposed to honour the town’s residents who died in the First World War. A committee dedicated to its construction was quickly formed and on June 28, 1920, a town-wide vote was in favour of a clock tower. The Memorial Clock Tower was designed by Toronto architect Charles M. Wilmott and unveiled on June 3, 1922.
Later, inscriptions were added for the Second World War and Korean War.
