Thursday, March 1, 1917 - Rose 7:30 Flying. No mail. Retired early

Friday, March 2, 1917 - Rose 7:00 No flying (foggy) Letter from Ray & Mr. Moore. Mr. Moore also sent me Barnaby Rudge by Chas Dickens. Wrote to him, mother, Mary, Ray. Went to town with A. McKeever & met Brown. Had Turkish bath at Imperial & supper at Regent Palace at 9:30. Back at Aerodrome 1am.

Saturday, March 3, 1917 - Rose 7:00 Letters from Sis, Florence, Boyle, Frances Depew. Card from Mary, wrote teary letter. Flying nine minutes dual 4 good landings with Major O'Malley. Am to take my first solo on Maurice Farman Shorthorn tomorrow. 9:45 P.M. Just going to say my prayers & get into bed.

Sunday, March 4, 1917 - Rose 7:00 No flying. Letter from Grace Casey & Cox. & Co. Went to 11:00 Mass at Harrow. Walked to Northolt before dinner. Had tea there and walked back. Sent cheque for £5.0.0 to Bolis & Harley. Wrote Grace Casey & O i/c Pay Dept. Air Board Strand, London. 10:00 Retiring

Monday, March 5, 1917 - Rose 7:30. No flying. Letter from J.S. Moore. Retired early

Tuesday, March 6, 1917 - Rose 7:00 No flying. Have new Flight Commander Capt. Harrison. Letter from F.W. Harcourt K.C. en closing £25.19.5. Received a box for Ray & one for myself from Catholic Women's Patriotic League, Niag. Falls.

Wednesday, March 7, 1917 - Rose 7:30 Station Officer. Letter from J.S. Moore. No flying. Very windy & cold. 1:20 just finished inspecting guard & going to bed.

Thursday, March 8, 1917 - Rose 7:30 No flying. Went to town & saw Mr. Moore. Has supper with him. Retired 1:00 A.M. Letter from Mary Higgins (cousin).

Friday, March 9, 1917 - Rose 7:15 Letter from Cox & Co., Tommy Seales & Mary. Flying 12 min. Very bumpy counteracted them very good. Lecture by Major O'Malley. Wrote to Mary. 9:30 PM retiring.

Saturday, March 10, 1917 - Rose 8:00 No flying. Letter from Mary & Tommy Seales. Aerial obs. 11:30 Wrote Burt Doran, Norm Keith, Cox & Co., Mrs. Burton. Retiring early.

Sunday, March 11, 1917 - Rose 7:00 Took first solo on M.F.S. #4909 Cracked skid. No mail. Did not have a chance to get to mass. Retired early.

Monday, March 12, 1917 - Rose 8:00 Flying solo 32 minutes made 3 perfect landings. Got caught in rain storms. Did not have goggles on & couldn't see. Broke undercarriage strut and flying wires landing. Letter from Ray. He is still in quarantine.

Tuesday, March 13, 1917 - Rose 8:15 Letter from Jim Muir, card from Tommy Seales. He leaves for Canada in two weeks. Flying solo MFSH A909, 4 good landings. Tried to get out of way of another machine landing & broke skid on 5th landing. Cold still very bad. 10:00 Retiring.

Wednesday, March 14, 1917 - Rose 6:50 Flying 20 min solo, 2 good landings. Head aching terribly.

Thursday, March 15, 1917 - Rose 7:30 Ordered to report to R.F.C. Headquarters, 46 Room, Mason Yard, Duke St. Picadilly Circus about some censored mail I sent to Mary. Straffed by Bdge. General Solomon. Had tea at Regents Palace Hotel. Retired 1:00am.

Friday, March 16, 1917 - Sick, did not get up until 4PM. Went to Church at Harrow six pm. No services. No mail. Retired early.

Saturday, March 17, 1917 - Rose 7:00 Flying 55 min solo very bumpy. @ letters from Ray. Telegram from Tommy Seales. Saw Jim Muir in town. He just got back from Turnberry. He leaves oversees shortly. Left word for Tommy at Maple Leaf Club.

Sunday, March 18, 1917 - Flying 20 min. Went to Mass at Westminister Cathedral. Met Tommy had luncheon with him and then went for walk. We walked thru Whitechapel, Petticoat Lane, where Dirk Turpin operated etc. Spent a very pleasant evening. Had good many taxi rides. Had one at 4:00am. Got a 5:15 am train back to Ruislip. Tommy with me Going to take him for a joy ride.

Monday, March 19, 1917 - Arrived Aerodrome 6:45 am. Tommy went to bed. I reported but no flying as I did not feel well. My cold is bad. M.O. saw me after Tommy left (12:00 noon). Felt very bad leaving Tommy. He leaves for Canada on Friday. I still think Chuck is alive. Rc'd letter from J.S. Moore & cards from home.

Tuesday, March 20, 1917 - In bed until 11:30. Going to stay in Ante Room as my room is too damp. Got letter from Yale & Ray. Feeling dizzy. M.O. is to see me.

Wednesday, March 21, 1917 - Stayed in bed for breakfast. Did not fly. Went to town in evening. Went to theatre with Lt. Even Clark & two doctor's daughters. Trés Bonne. Missed last train. Stayed at Bedford Hotel. Met Mrs. Holburn & her sister Estra.

Thursday, March 22, 1917 - Got back to Aerodome 12:30 PM. Mail from home & Ray. Did not go up flying. Feeling punk.

Friday, March 23, 1917 - Rose 8:00 Flying 35 min in storm very bumpy. Calmer in evening. Got lost for one hour & found four G.C. Railway tracks & got home OK. Petrol low. Dark when I landed. Taking R.A.C. ticket tomorrow to qualify.

Saturday, March 24, 1917 - Rose 8:15 Took my ticket for Royal Aero Club. I am now a fully fledged pilot. Took a very good ticket. Passed out in machine guns.

Sunday, March 25, 1917 - Rose 8:00 Passed Aerial Obs etc. 10:00 am Left for town 12:00 am went to mass at Westminster Cathedral. Met Ivan Marks, De Roche, Hurst, H. Drummond. Put in pleasant afternoon in music room at Strand. Met Mrs. Hollon & friend. Went for taxi drive. Ivan Marks, Hurst, Ester & I took 10:57 train home. Retired 12:30. Papers from home.

Monday, March 26, 1917 - Rose 8:30 (Passed exams) paper handed in. Went to see adjutant. On leave until Friday 9 am. Letter from Yale, Mother & Sis. Went to London. Saw Mr. J.S. Moore at Bonnington Hotel, Kingsway. Stayed there.

Tuesday, March 27, 1917 - Took 9:50 train to Manchester. Arrived 2:50 PM Put up at Grosvenor Hotel, Deansgate. Came down to Eccles. Saw Mr. Higgnis & Mary Somerville, Daly's etc. Returned to hotel at 12 PM.

Wednesday, March 28, 1917 - Rose 9:20 Had breakfast at Grosvenor. Was with Mr. Moore till 1PM. Visited St. Mary's Church. Had luncheon at Midland Hotel. Changed hotel from Grosvenor here. Went to Princess Theatre (caste) at 2 PM. 5 PM Tea at Midland. Up at Eccles now 7:50 at Daly's. Returned hotel 11 PM.

Thursday, March 29, 1917 - Rose 7:20 Train left Manchester 9:10. Now on train. Arrived London 2:05. Saw Julia. Returned to Aerodrome 11:00. Letters from Yale, Grace, Cox & Co., Bolis & Harley, Harry Tagg etc.

Friday, March 30, 1917 - Rose 8:30 Posted to Wye Kent, #20 Reserve Squadron. Left Northolt 1:19 Left London 4:30, after seeing Bella Bird & Daisy. Arrived Wye 6:10. Don't like place so far. I am billed out at Mrs Dixon's. Wrote Mother & Father, Ray

Saturday, March 31, 1917 - Rose 7:30 No flying. No mail AM. Wrote J.S. Moore, Yale & Grace. Sent wire to Ray. Went to confession in Ashford - Movie. Retired 10:30 P.M.
