This was constructed after the First World War and the newer slab (48020-016) was constructed quite recently. This cairn has the Second World War veteran names listed. The plaques have been removed from the south side. The cairn is constructed of field stone set in concrete.

The Taber Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (GWVA) was organized shortly after the First World War, on April 10th, 1919. In 1920 the members decided to erect a monument to honour the 25 men who did not return from the war. The Monument is entirely the work of the veterans except the statue. A local veteran Thomas Love posed for the picture, the photographs were then sent to Italy, where Master Sculptors completed what is said to be one of the most perfect replica of a Canadian Soldier. The Memorial was unveiled on July 11, 1928. It has since been formally presented to the Town of Taber. All of the branches November 11th ceremonies take place at the cenotaph.

This formal park offers relaxation next to the South Saskatchewan River. Flowerbeds brighten the area and an interesting band shell, adorned with a mural created by local artist Jim Marshall, provides cover for entertainers. The mural depicts Medicine Hat's history. Riverside Veterans' Memorial Park is also home of the cenotaph, two CPR locomotives, and a Second World War tank (refer to memorials #48020-001, 48020-002, 48020-003).
