This gun barrel is from a British built Centurion Tank that was used in the Second World War. It was erected by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 33 in 1981.

Flying Officer Alfred Holmes DFC Park

Major Holland was born in Ottawa, Ontario on 2 February 1878 and served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. He received the Victoria Cross for his actions during the South African War. After he returned to Canada, Major Holland received a commission as an officer in his old Militia unit, the 5th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. During the First World War he commanded a Motor Machine Gun Battery, serving in France with the Canadian Expeditionary Force for one year. Holland relocated to Cobalt sometime after the war to become the postmaster. He resided in the community until his death in June 1948.

This park was named in his honour by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 44 and the Town of Cobalt.

The Mko Mnising Cenotap was erected in memory of Temagami First Nation Veterans who served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the First and Second World Wars.

This park, is dedicated to the memory of Sergeant Martin Goudreault, member of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment and former resident of New Liskeard, who was killed in action in the Panjwayi District of Afghanistan on June 6, 2010.

With a driving rain steadily falling Saturday afternoon, friends, family members, local dignitaries and supporters gathered to honour the sacrifice of Sergeant Martin Goudreault. The lookout park on Highway 11, across from the Ministry of Transportation office and facing north toward the Little Claybelt, was dedicated on October 15 in memory of Sgt Goudreault, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010.

“It is a privilege to be here today for this dedication to honour our son,” said Sgt Goudreault’s father, Aurel, to a crowd of about 70. With his wife Micheline by his side, Mr. Goudreault choked back tears as he talked briefly about Sgt. Goudreault. “Martin was a generous and loving man,” he said. “He was a career soldier. Always giving a hundred percent of himself.” Sgt Goudreault was just 35 when he was killed in action in the Panjwayi District of Afghanistan on June 6, 2010. It was his third tour of duty in Afghanistan. He was a 15-year veteran of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment.

Aubrey Cosens was born in Latchford and killed during the Second World War. The Sgt. Aubrey Cosens V.C. Memorial Bridge was opened in October 1960. Members of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada, Cosens' original regiment, were present at the official unveiling. The Regimental Cadet Corps formed a guard of honor and the Argyll Pipes & Drums provided musical support.

The bridge is maintained by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. On January 14, 2003, the deck of the Sergeant Aubrey Cosens V.C. Memorial Bridge was put out of service until after the deck was reconstructed in 2005.

In 1986, the plaque commemorating Cosens was installed and dedicated in Veteran's Park, located next to the Latchfod Municipal Office.

This plaque is dedicated to Sergeant Aubrey Cosens,V.C. It was erected in 1965.

At the initiative of the mayor and council of the new Municipality of Markstay-Warren, the Warren War Memorial site was developed. The municipality was proud to hold its first Memorial Day ceremonies on November 11, 1999.

This memorial was constructed in 1959 in memory of the servicemen who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars. It was built by the late stonemason Mr. Spiecher and constructed of native rock from the surrounding area. The funds for the construction were raised by the members from the Montreal River Branch 310 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Elk Lake, Ontario, and are also maintained by this branch.

In 1995, the approach was improved and the mortar was repainted. The unveiling and dedication by Reverend Chabot, and President Irvince McKay was held on Sunday, August 2, 1959, at 2 p.m. The occasion also marked the 50^th anniversary of the incorporation of the Township of James.

A humorous but sad incident occurred prior to the memorial's completion. On the laying of the base, a concerned branch treasurer, Clarence Foote, questioned the president, Len Mallinson, as to where the funding was coming from to pay for the project. The president retorted jokingly, that the "money better come or I'll take a slow boat to China" (a popular song of the time). Sadly the president after attending an evening dance, died in his sleep. The remaining members grabbed the torch and raised the money to cover the cost of the monument by the time of its unveiling.

This memorial is dedicated to men killed in action in the First and Second World Wars. It was erected by the Town of New Liskeard.
