This plaque was unveiled in honour of the members of the Dominion United Church who served during the Second World War.

Historical note: Dominion United (previously Dominion Methodist) and Chalmers United (previously Chalmers Presbyterian) amalgamated in 1962 to form Dominion Chalmers United Church.

The Lieutenant-Colonel Sam Sharpe Relief was designed by artist Tyler Brindley in memory of Sharpe's service in the First World War. Lieutenant-Colonel Sharpe was first elected to the House of Commons in 1908 and was re-elected in 1911 as the Member of Parliament for Ontario North. He was sitting as a Member of Parliament at the start of the First World War, and helped raise the 116th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He commanded the 116th Battalion during its operations on the fields of Europe and was re-elected by his constituents again in December 1917, while he was fighting on the battlefields of France. His unit was present for the assault on Vimy Ridge and fought at Avion and Passchendaele. After suffering mental injuries on the front, he was hospitalized in England and subsequently returned to Canada. Lieutenant-Colonel Sharpe died by suicide on May 25, 1918, when he jumped from a window at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal.

Member of Parliament Erin O'Toole's motion to install a plaque to commemorate Sharpe passed unanimously on May 24, 2018. There was already a sculpture in the foyer dedicated to the only serving Member of Parliament to have died in combat. Lieutenant Colonel George Baker was killed during the Battle of Mount Sorrel in June 1916, and his statue was erected in 1924. O'Toole, whose tenure as Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada was dominated by concerns about Veterans suffering from psychological injuries, felt it was time to honour Sharpe — and send a message of support to those in need.

The initiative received support from retired Lieutenant-General Romeo Dallaire, whose experience in Rwanda and subsequent struggle with post traumatic stress disorder are known to many Canadians. "Putting a commemoration plaque not far from Baker's is to recognize that they don't all die on the battlefield. A bunch of them die at home from injuries of the battlefield," Dallaire said. "And it should not be hidden away."

Artist Tyler Briley, had also struggled with post traumatic stress disorder from his days as a firefighter. He completed the plaque in 2015 and it was unveiled at the Sam Sharpe Breakfast during mental health week in 2016. The plaque was initially unveiled in Sam Sharpe's hometown of Uxbridge, Ontario, later erected in the foyer of the Centre Block, Parliament Hill and unveiled on November 7, 2018.

The relief was relocated to the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre Operational Stress Injury Clinic, while the Centre Block undergoes extensive renovations, possibly lasting until 2029. 

"Canada's Aid to the Allies and Peace Memorial" includes the Roll of Honour for McAuliffe Davis Lumber Co. Limited. There is a preservation copy of it in Library and Archives Canada.

"Canada's Aid to the the Allies and Peace Memorial" includes the American Bank Note Company Great War Honour Roll. The American Bank Note Company won a contract with the Government of the Dominion of Canada to produce paper currency and stamps in 1897.  Although mostly mechanical work would continue to be done in Canada, in Ottawa, the more skilled labour would be accomplished in New York.

"Canada's Aid to the the Allies and Peace Memorial" includes the Great War Roll of Honor for Grant, Holden, Graham Ltd., Wholesale Manufacturers and Importers of Clothing, Men’s Furnishings, Tents, Tarpaulins, Awnings, Lumbermen’s and Contractors’ Supplies. There is a preservation copy of it in Library and Archives Canada.

There are two sculptures of angels in prayer for the souls of fallen Canadian soldiers in the Peace Tower. 

In 1928, the ten year anniversary of the armistice, reflection on the war and its meaning prompted activities to promote a national program of remembrance. The Armistice Ceremonial Committee of Canada was created to encourage the observance of Armistice Day in a meaningful way. These efforts led to 40,000 people gathering at Parliament Hill where a temporary cenotaph leading up to Centre Block was erected.

This temporary cenotaph would serve for Remembrance Day ceremonies until the National War Memorial was unveiled in 1939.

The international Peace Garden was erected in 1990. The garden inspired the founding of the International Peace Garden foundation. 

In Ottawa, Lillian Freiman adopted the Annual poppy campaign fundraiser and the first Canadian poppies were made in her living room in 1921. The Freimans’ Victorian-style mansion, located at 149 Somerset Street West in Ottawa, became the home of the Ottawa Army Officers’ Mess in 1957.

She was influential in the 1919 creation of the Vetcraft Shops, which employed returning servicemen to make furniture and toys. In 1923, they took over the poppy making. She was a member of the National Poppy Advisory Committee and chaired Ottawa’s annual poppy campaign nearly every year until her death in 1940.

On December 29th, 1941 a tablet was unveiled by Major-General L.F. LaFleche, Associate Deputy Minister of National War Services at Trafalgar House the then - headquarters of the Ottawa branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, at 110 Argyle Street, Ottawa. The plaque was taken down in 1972 when the Legion offices were demolished and relocated to 100-1800 Bank Street, Ottawa. The plaque did not move with the Legion and there is no record of its whereabouts thereafter.
