The Trenton Cenotaph was constructed in 1968 and dedicated in memory of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. Walter Gregory's design was chosen from a competition in 1967. The cost was covered by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 110, its Ladies' Auxiliary and Branch 579 Quinte Ex Service Women.

Carl Taylor supervised construction and obtained the materials and contractors. The materials included rocks from an old Trenton post office representing the strong base Canadians rose from. Its triangular shape represents the three main branches of service, Army, Air Force and Navy. A broken column suggests lives that were cut off too early.

In 1988, it was rededicated in memory of the fallen of all conflicts. Two benches were added: one for the rededication and the second dedicated to the six crew lost in the sinking of HMCS Trentonian.

The Trent River Cenotaph is dedicated to the local men who served and died for their country. It was originally dedicated in 1928 to one soldier, Private Richard Cowan, who died while serving in the First World War.

A plaque was added in 1988 to honour other those that served in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. Another plaque was added in 2010 to honour both George Edmund Longmuir and Private Richard Cowan. The cenotaph has been restored and rededicated at least twice since its first unveiling. Two small plaques at the front of the memorial, on each side of the 1914-1918 gates, lists those responsible for its creation. At the top of the memorial is a cast-bronze figure of a carrier pigeon, designed by James Wright.

For several years following the World War I, the Port Hope chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire devoted their time to raise funds for the design and construction of the Cenotaph. Classically inspired and with gothic touches, an unusual open arch crowns the top. In 1926 this impressive monument was unveiled. On the front of the memorial are inscribed, the names of the local men who died in the Great War, and the names of the historic battles are carved in the shaft for all to remember. Statues of peace adorn the memorial, looking out for the souls lost in the horrific battles. The names of those lost in World War II were added later, as was a small bronze plaque to acknowledge the Korean War.

The Cenotaph Beautification Project is financially supported by the Port Hope Legion. In 2018, work was completed on the monument to repair deteriorating lettering, surface cleaning and repairs to the cross-bed flower beds.

The revitalization of the Port Hope War Memorial Cenotaph supports the work of recognizing and honouring Veterans and current Armed Forces members.

In 1920, the local chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire began fundraising for a cenotaph. With thousands in attendance, it was unveiled on November 11, 1924, by Effie Bolster, a Cobourg nurse who had served overseas. The design is a Roman cross with a brass sword superimposed on either side. Emblazoned on the cenotaph is a quotation from a speech that Rudyard Kipling wrote for King George V to give when visiting war memorials.

This cenotaph was rebuilt in 1990, and dedicated to the local war dead of the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War and merchant seamen.

The Campbellford Cenotaph was erected in 1926, by two local chapters of the Imperial Orders of the Daughters of the Empire, at a cost of $5,000 to honour those lost in the Great War. It was restored and rededicated in 2009 when the missing names of 12 veterans who died in the First World War and one veteran who died in the Second World War were added.

A fence surrounds the entire cenotaph which consists of a white granite centerpiece sitting on a cement base and is flanked by flag poles. The carved reversed swords on the front centerpiece symbolize the end of hostilities.

The names of the those lost in the two World Wars and Korean War are engraved in the massive stone, while two additional plaques list the names of those who served during the major conflicts.
