The Memorial Building was constructed as a living memorial after the First World War by the Lake of the Woods Milling Company Limited. The building opened in December of 1920. The Lake of the Woods Milling Company Limited operated a mill in Keewatin for 79 years, from 1888 until 1967 when most of it burned to the ground and was never rebuilt.

The Lake of the Woods Milling Company First World War Roll of Honour was erected in the Memorial Building, date unknown, before it was transferred to the Keewatin Legion, date unknown.

The Memorial Building was located at 102 Tenth Street and is now owned by Shaw Communications. The most notable changes to the building on the outside, are the old dormer windows that were cut into the roof are gone. The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, HMCS Mispic, stored their uniforms, band instruments, and rifles here. They used the upstairs hall and at one time had about 80 cadets on parade.

Directly across the street from the building is the Keewatin Memorial Cairn.

The official opening of Veterans Memorial Park in Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls was held Saturday, June 29, 2019.  The park commemorates Canadian Forces men and women who served in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014. Serving as master of ceremonies retired SN-NF fire chief and Honorary Lt. Col. of the 116th Independent Field Battery Woody Linton related the four year project to acquire the LAV3 and funding for Veterans Memorial Park. Dignitaries speaking at the dedication included Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls Mayor and Hon. Lt. Col. Norbert Dufresne, Kenora Mayor Dan Reynard and Kenora MP Bob Nault.

The centre piece of Veterans Memorial Park is a Canadian Army LAV3 (light armoured vehicle), the eight-wheel drive multi-purpose machine used to transport personnel, supplies and equipment in Afghanistan. The vehicle is one of 250 LAV3s declared surplus by the Canadian Forces and made available to communities and organizations across the country for memorials to Canadian veterans of Afghanistan.

On November 5, 2014, the Canada Company Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) lll Monument Program was launched to recognize the 40,000 Canadians Armed Forces who served in Afghanistan and to commemorate the 162 Canadians who lost their lives. The program closed after awarding 33 monuments to communities across Canada.
