For more than a century, Canadian military history has been memorialized on the streets of Ottawa. Over that time, our feelings about war have changed dramatically. While the bronze and stone memorials remain static, what they mean to the people who gaze upon them has evolved. Sometimes, especially on Remembrance Day, there is general agreement. Sometimes, there is controversy.
Every year on Remembrance Day, a ceremony is held at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan, Republic of Korea. The ceremony honours service men and women from all nations who served during the Korean War. The Korean War Veterans Association National Capital Unit 7 and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea conduct an event in Ottawa to mirror the Busan event, with the assistance of Veterans Affairs Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces.
