The Memorial Hall was constructed by Lewis Behrns and Company, a local brick and stone mason firm, in 1921. It is dedicated to the memory of the local veterans of the First World War. In March of 1919 the Abernethy District League decided to form a company to be called Abernethy and District Memorial Hall Company for the purpose of selling shares to build a hall in Abernethy. W.R. Motherwell and James Dick pushed the project and organized the building. The gravel hauling was donated by Les Coulthard. Mr. H.H. Turner, secretary and timekeeper of the construction, urged the completion of the project. The Abernethy League eventually became the Great War Veteran's Association in 1920. The hall contains two rooms and an auditorium suitable for banquets, meetings, etc. The building is maintained by the local village council.

Stanley Edgar Storey of Storey and Vab Edmond designed the Abernathy War Memorial Hall in 1921.
