Extreme Heat Upon Arrival in Qatar
Heroes Remember
Transcript
When we first arrived, we, I jumped on
the plane and arrived, and like I said
we did all the, you know, training prior to
going there for what we were supposed to
be going into and then when you arrived,
you know, they gave you some,
you know certain things that you had,
procedures that you had to follow.
And then from there and then they said,
“Well, when we open up the door
of the plane, it’s like we are going to be
going into a semi-warzone and we have to
be prepared for what is going to happen and
when we open up the door of the plane,
it’s going to be like opening up your
oven door of your oven at home.”
And you looked at this and you couldn’t see,
and you couldn’t fathom this,
so they hand you a litre of water, and said,
‘Poor this litre of water into you and
drink it down,” and then giving you a briefing
of saying, “Every day you have to maintain,
drinking water, you know approximately 4 or
5 litres of water to sustain your body needs.”
So you think about this and being, like I’m
being a young man and everything like
that in the military and I’m saying,
“Okay, this is real.”
As soon as they open up the door of the plane
is was like Phewww! And you go “Oh my God!”
It was just like pulling your oven door
down and going, the heat was like,
and you go “Wow” and it was like,
and then that’s when it started and
then that’s when your realism said,
“We are in the desert, we are in, you know,
a zone,” and that’s what had happened.
