North Korean Leaflets and PA Systems

Transcript
Well, we always had “bed check Charlie” fly over and sometimes he'd drop - little by plane - and drop leaflets or a grenade or two, you know, stuff like that. And they had a big powerful speaker system and they would play music and they would of course play an audio about why are we here in their country killing their people and when the brass or the politicians and the brass, or the politicians I guess, are home sleeping with your wives and good things like that you know, make you think. They'd like to come on this speaker system and imply to you that there were no secrets. That we didn't have any secrets, they knew it all. When our 3rd Battalion moved into position, they welcomed that 3rd Battalion. In many cases they were in a position where they looked down on our positions and it couldn't be better for them. So there's no reason why they shouldn't have been able to determine company movement and personnel movement or whatever, and they did.
Description

Mr. Ferguson describes the mind messing that the North Koreans did with propaganda leaflets and messages broadcast on huge PA systems.

Luther Ferguson

Luther Ferguson was born in Mayview, Saskatchewan on October 23, 1933. He describes himself as being “unworldly, poorly educated and having low self-esteem.” Mr. Ferguson felt that the Army offered him the best opportunity to both further his education and improve his life. He enlisted in 1951, and soon found himself a combatant in the Korean War, where he served in the infantry. Mr. Ferguson’s accounts lean heavily on the psychological impacts of training and warfare, and the devastation experienced by the civilian population during the Korean conflict.
