2006 Remembrance Day Poster

The Government of Canada is committed to helping Canadians, especially youth, learn more about Canada’s Veterans. That is why this year during Veterans’ Week, November 5 to 11, Canada will honour Veterans by "Sharing the Story." Canadians are encouraged to talk with Veterans and Canadian Forces members about their service to Canada, learn how serving our nation has changed their lives, and pass on what they have learned to their peers.

This poster embodies the 2006 theme, "Share the Story". The image depicts a grandfather and his grandson returning home from the local cenotaph. The young boy finds his grandfather’s uniform and tries it on. As he and his grandfather stand together in front of the mirror, the grandfather is reminded of how young he was when he fought in the war, while the grandson imagines how it must have felt to serve in battle. The grandfather shares memories of his service with his grandson, and together they remember and honour those who risked it all for our country.

The Canada Remembers Program of Veterans Affairs Canada encourages all Canadians to learn about the sacrifices and achievements of Canada’s Veterans.

Second World War Veteran Bill Pierce, of Souris, Prince Edward Island, and Brandon Derry, of Baie Verte, Newfoundland*, Share the Story during Veterans’ Week 2006 (November 5 to 11). Together, they remember and honour those who risked their lives for our country.
