This Book of Remembrance was produced by the Governments of Canada and Newfoundland to record the names of the men and women of Newfoundland who, on land and sea and in the air, gave their lives in the defence of Freedom before Newfoundland became a Province of Canada on 1 April 1949. It was placed in the Memorial Chamber of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Canada, in 1973 and a replica was placed in the Confederation Building in St. John's, Newfoundland.
