Additional Information
Son of Gordon Haldane and Relda Haldane of Montreal, Quebec. Corporal Haldane was born in Montreal and lived there until entering the Army. He had two brothers, John and Gordon, both of whom are now deceased. James was cheerful, enthusiastic and outgoing. He was well liked and it was felt that his death was an irreplaceable loss, not only to his parents but to the family as a whole. James was very athletic and devoted to physical fitness. His talents along this line were an impediment to his desire to get into battle. He apparently requested transfer out of two regiments prior to settling with the "Westies" because he was being assigned to instructor status in physical training and wanted, instead, to see action. This would likely explain what a Montrealer was doing in a British Columbia regiment.
Commemorated on Page 325 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance. Request a copy of this page. Download high resolution copy of this page.
