Son of Philias-Édouard Derue and Mélina Massé, of Montréal, Québec. He stated being born in 1888 when he enlisted.
He was severely wounded to the buttock on 12 October, while the 22nd Battalion was moving from Escaudoeuvres to East of Tilloy, and he was evacuated the same day to No 33 Casualty clearing station in Boisleux-au-Mont. He died there of his wounds four days later.

BUCQUOY ROAD CEMETERY is situated on the D919 heading south from Arras to Ayette. The Cemetery is on the right hand side of the road, 9 kilometres from Arras, just before a crossroads with the D36 between Ficheux and Boisleux-au-Mont.
