Photo of Charles Anthony Winkworth – This is a partial picture of Charles in his uniform.

Grave Marker – This is a picture of his grave marker. He is buried in Plot I, Row B, Grave 10 of the Adanac Military Cemetery, Miraumont, France. It is very likely that Charles was killed less than 300 metres from his grave during an attack on Desire Trench. This picture was taken during a brief visit to France in 2003.

Adanac Military Cemetery – This is the main entrance to the Adanac Military Cemetery. It is located about 3 km south of the village of Miraumont on the east side of the road to Courcelette. This gate is immediately off of the paved road. The gravel in the picture is the side of the road. The cemetery is meticulously manicured and cared for. It is very peaceful. There are about 3,187 Commonwealth burials and commemorations of the First World War in this cemetery. There are 1,709 unidentified graves but they are special memorials commemorate 13 casualties known or believed to be buried among them. There is at least one Victoria Cross winner in this cemetery. This picture was taken during a brief visit to France in 2003.
