Location:

The BERLIN 1939-1945 WAR CEMETERY is in the district of Charlottenburg, 8 kilometres west of the city centre, on the south side of the Heerstrasse. From Theodor Heuss Platz in the district of Charlottenburg near the exhibition hall complex and next to the Olympic stadium, follow signs for Spandau, proceeding along the Heerstrasse. The Cemetery lies on the Heerstrasse on the left hand side of the road and 3 kilometres from Theodor Heuss Platz. Visitors should drive beyond the BERLIN 1939-1945 WAR CEMETERY to the traffic lights, then turn left directly onto a small one way street running parallel to the Heerstrasse. The Cemetery entrance is on this small one way road.

  • Document– F. Halcro trained on many different types of aricraft at many bases across Canada.  He logged many hours of flight during training, see flight log entry of Jan. 1941 shown here.  After graduation,  he became a flight instructor himself and then went on to operational service where he  was a Mosquito pilot with his Co-Pilot Tom Martin.  Both were killed over Berlin September 1944.
  • Newspaper Clipping– Flight Lieutenant JAMES ANGUS FRANCIS HALCRO was listed as Missing After Air Operations, in the Department of National Defense for Air Casualty List 1013 of the Royal Canadian Air Force, published in the Globe and Mail on October 14, 1944. Flight Lieutenant Navigator THOMAS JAMES  MARTIN is also named in this list.  He was the Co-Pilot of the Mosquito aircraft that Flight Lieutenant HALCRO was flying which went down over Berlin on September 12, 1944.  They are buried in Joint grave 4. A. 3-4 at the BERLIN 1939-1945 WAR CEMETERY, Germany
  • Newspaper Clipping– Flight Lieutenant JAMES ANGUS FRANCIS HALCRO was declared Previously Missing, Now Officially Presumed Dead, in the Department of National Defense for Air Casualty List 1248 of the Royal Canadian Air Force, published in the Globe and Mail on July 28, 1945.
  • Memorial– Flight Lieutenant JAMES ANGUS FRANCIS HALCRO is one of 21 men commemorated on this plaque, placed In Loving Memory of the Men of St Lukes Parish who gave their lives in the World War II, in St Luke’s Anglican Church, Ottawa, Ontario.  He died on September 12, 1944 and is buried in BERLIN 1939-1945 WAR CEMETERY, Germany
