Son of Hector Guitard and Lucy Asselin, Restigouche County, New Brunswick. Husband of Mary Eugenie Hickey of Nash Creek, New Brunswick. Father of Joseph Guitard (1935-1935) and Terrence Gabriel Guitard (1936-2006).
Served in New Brunswick, Newfoundland with W Force, Hong Kong with C Force, Japan as a prisoner of war. He had 1,262 days of service, including 856 overseas.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
